31st October of every year marks a remarkable celebration of an event around the globe, called Halloween. This one of a kind, creepy yet full of fun celebration dates back to the time of the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, which was basically a celebration of the end of summer and the beginning of winter. The Celts believed that on this night, the dead could return to earth and meet the living.
Creeeeeepyyyy !!!!!
The celebration of this union led to the Samhain people dressing up in costumes, lighting bonfires, telling fortunes and offering food and drinks to the spirits which they left outside their door as treats for them. And that is what culminated into the modern era’s trick or treat rituals.
Halloween was also influenced by Christian holidays that honored the dead, such as All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day. The name Halloween comes from All Hallows’ Eve, the night before All Saints’ Day. Some of the symbols and activities of Halloween, such as jack-o-lanterns and bobbing for apples, have their origins in these Christian celebrations.
Today, Halloween is a popular holiday around the world. People decorate their homes with spooky items, carve pumpkins into faces, and dress up in costumes. They also watch scary movies, play games, and attend parties. Not only is Halloween a time to express creativity, imagination, and humor it is also a time to remember and celebrate the mystery of life and death.
